Unfortunately, this tradition (among many others) has become a mega waste generating event, with the globe emitting an additional 9 million kilograms of CO2 due to Valentine’s related purchases, with many ending up in landfill. Often manufactured in developing countries in unethical and exploitative conditions for workers, many traditional Valentine’s Day gifts are made with plastics and unsustainable materials, remaining in our environment for between 100-500 years.
