RUSHING WOMAN’S SYNDROME

In a national survey conducted in 2018 with a pool of over 15,000 women, it was found that of the women surveyed, 46% reported that they have been diagnosed with anxiety and/or depression. These findings reiterate the sentiment of a report published earlier the same year from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, discovering that anxiety disorders are the leading cause of ill health and death in girls and women aged five to 44. This information, along with research from US medical center the Mayo Clinic: “Long-term activation of the stress-response system – and the subsequent overexposure to cortisol and other stress hormones – can disrupt almost all your body’s processes.”

Rushing Woman’s Syndrome is a term Dr. Libby coined and the namesake of her book that addresses women’s mental health head-on, delving into the true and ultimate cost of constant stress, rushing, and anxiety on both our physical and mental health.
